FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
03.11.2019
The Malta Resuscitation Council and the Malta Red Cross urge all sport clubs to have at least one personnel trained in Basic Life Support and AED use on site at any sports event.
Following a cardiac arrest, good quality chest compressions and early defibrillation is what is proven to save lives. This can be done by bystanders and more effectively so if trained.
Immediate transportation to hospital is secondary to these two primary goals: giving good quality chest compressions and an early access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
In the wake of the recent incident which happened in one of our stadiums, the immediate action of the paramedic on site, aided by other bystanders and the presence of an AED, was invaluable.
The Malta Resuscitation Council and the Malta Red Cross urge all sports clubs to:
1) Encourage their personnel to get trained in first aid and basic life support, including the use of an AED.
2) Have an AED installed at all sport event locations, including training sites.
